Bible Verses About Parenting.

God gives parents a real calling: to teach their children his ways, to discipline in love, and to model faith in everyday life. Scripture places that work at home, in ordinary moments, not only at church.

These verses speak to that calling with both instruction and grace. No parent does it perfectly. The Lord is patient with parents as he is with his children, and he is the one who saves.

Teaching at Home

Faith is passed on in ordinary moments.

  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7

    Read in context
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
  • Proverbs 22:6

    Read in context
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

A proverb states a general principle about how life usually goes, not a guarantee.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Discipline in Love

Correction is a form of love, and it has limits.

  • Hebrews 12:11

    Read in context
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
  • Proverbs 13:24

    Read in context
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
  • Proverbs 29:17

Grace for Parents

God is a patient Father to tired parents.

  • Isaiah 40:11
