Private by default, social by choice

Every journal entry is yours alone unless you deliberately share it. That isn't a settings toggle — privacy is enforced at the database level, and your reflections and prayers are encrypted at rest. Your prayer life isn't our data asset.

RockReader opens to today's reading, not a stream. The 365-day Bedrock plan gives your year a spine; the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) means you never face a blank page. The social layer supports the habit — it never replaces it.

Attention is protected, not monetized

No ads. No tracking cookies. No algorithm deciding what you see. The Prayer Pause even asks you to sit with a friend's request for a full thirty seconds before your prayer counts — and if you leave early, nothing is recorded. No shame either way.

1 · Read & study

Follow your plan, about 3 to 6 chapters a day through the Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. Tap any verse to highlight it, note it, hear it read aloud, or open its cross-references, commentary, footnotes, and original-language word study. All free, all in place. No copy/paste, no tab-hopping.

2 · Reflect

Write a SOAP reflection: the Scripture that stood out, what you Observed, how you'll Apply it, and a Prayer. Prefer to free-write? Reflections give you a private, open page. And when you want to go deep, guided Inductive Study walks a passage through Observation, Interpretation, Correlation, and Application.

3 · Share (if you want)

Keep it private forever, or share a piece of it — with friends, your small group, or everyone. Pray for each other's requests, react, and encourage.

Trust claims should be checkable. Here's what "private by default" actually means in the engineering:

Defense in depth

Row-level security policies in the database decide who can see every single row — the UI never gets a vote. On top of that, journal entries and prayer requests are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. A breach of the database alone exposes no one's prayer life.

Your data stays yours

Export everything you've ever written in one click — 19 datasets, yours to keep. Delete your account and your content and files actually go away. Analytics are cookie-free and anonymous.

Fast on purpose

RockReader scores 100 for performance and 100 for accessibility on Google's mobile benchmarks, with content appearing in under a second. A daily habit shouldn't keep you waiting.

A safe room

Every image is screened by automated moderation before it's shown. Reports are reviewed by a human. Blocking is enforced server-side. Quiet stays quiet.

RockReader is built and maintained by one person: Kiel Harvey, the founder. He wrote From the Source, a guide to studying Scripture together in community, and RockReader is that conviction turned into software: serious Bible reading, study, and journaling that belong to ordinary believers, not just seminarians.
